Whenever someone I know goes through something, I don’t know what to say or do to help. I feel useless and shitty, and shittier for feeling shitty even though I’m not going through what they are. But what am I supposed to do? I ask, and they say, “There’s nothing you can do.” It’s impossible to tell if they mean that or if they are just too uncomfortable asking me to do whatever would help, whether that be because they don’t feel close enough to me to be able to ask or because they’re too proud and stubborn. And I have a LOT of stubborn people in my life, some of them even somehow proud of their stubbornness.

So I mentally shrug to myself and say what can one do. What else can I do?

So you want to know about me? If so, I'm surprised and humbled. There are so many people you could bump into on the vast expanse of the internet, yet here you are reading MY words. I am one who was fooled by the system into getting a college education only to find out I would have been happier without it. And after realizing this, I returned to it like a dog to its vomit. Thus, I find myself pining after my childhood dream of being a writer while sitting on a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and attending to a Master's degree. You know how the saying goes: "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." Joking aside, I like what I do, but I still want to write and eventually publish my work. I see no reason why I cannot do both.

  1. Just asking someone “What can I do” is the best and only thing you can do for some people I think. It shows you care and that you are supportive. If that’s all you can do, then I think it’s great.

    1. Thank you for your comment. Yes, I think you are probably right, but when it’s a constant reoccurrence and that’s the best I have to offer, it’s discouraging. We need more positive thinking like what you’ve shown here to help us through these situations. In my case, with more positive thinking, some of the situations wouldn’t even exist.
